The Difference Between Vampire Movies from the 70s and 80s

I think I've noticed some subtle differences between vampire movies from the 1970s and 1980s.  As a comparison, I'm posting a video from one of my favorite Hammer Horror vampire movies from the 1970s, Twins of Evil (because Peter Cushing's performance is outstanding and the Collinson twins are so goddamn hot), and also one from Joel Shumacher's The Lost Boys (1987).  So let me know if these differences are really there or if I'm just imagining things.

If you'd like, you can even watch Twins of Evil at the YouTube Grindhouse Theatre; a new feature here on Beasts in Human Skin where you can see exploitation and cult films in their entirety for free because somebody said, "Hey!  Fuck you copyright restrictions!" and posted them on YouTube.  I'll continue to add new ones as I find them.

First, here's Twins of Evil (1971):

And now The Lost Boys (1987):

I can check videos only at home. I loved Dracula movies better than vampires

One was cool, and the other had this terrible loop that made me want to stick steak knifes into my ears. If we're going to generalize a decade here, I'd say the 70's were better.

Also, I'm a fan of this Youtube Grindhouse Theater thing. Yes.

Hmmm. For the record, setting aside 70's versus 80's sensibilities, I think it lays in what can be considered the slippery slope of jadedness that we currently find ourselves in, and descending further into.

Consider this if you will: ultimately, it boils down to a loss of sensuality and an increase of overt, blunt sexuality.

Just based on these two videos (and having seen The Lost Boys and it's horrible sequel) you can definitely tell the difference. Sure the tropes are there but only at the most basics: crucifixes ward them off, garlic and holy water, sunlight kills them. But unless there's the grindhouse Hammer Horror goodness of boobs and bush, just by the vidyuh itself you can tell that it's going to be sensual as hell - dem twins are fuckin' on POINT yo.

Also, in a 70's versus 80's comparison, the increase in overt, baser violence as well. But all movies are like that thanks to the differences in cameras between the two eras.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm actually fairly certain I'm right 'bout this one. There's pro'lly other differences too, less obvious but still noticeable.
