Grindhouse News: 13 Assassins Trailer Released

13 Assassins
I'm sure many are already familiar with the "unique" and often excessively violent works of Japanese director Takashi Miike.  His yakuza and horror films like Ichi the Killer, Visitor Q, and Audition have made him famous throughout the world.  Now he has made something different.  Some reviewers are calling 13 Assassins Miike's "most restrained and mature work to date" but obviously they haven't seen The Bird People in China.  To me, 13 Assassins doesn't look restrained at all.

Here's the trailer for the upcoming samurai epic from one of my favorite contemporary directors.  It will be in North American theaters on April 29th.

This movie is actually a remake of a 1963 film directed by Eiichi Kudo with the same name.  Here's the trailer for the original film.

Oh my. Um....

Hm.

Yeah, to Lurker's point, this is a fascinating chapter in world history that hasn't got NEAR enough representation to Western moviegoers. Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai is still ranked as one of my all time favorite films. I will definitely be on the lookout for this one when it hits the torrent sites....err...Netflix...in Costa Rica...

Wow, I've always been facinated with samurai's, just not only limited to. There is so much to the old Japanese culture that goes unseen, but agreeably, the time this movie takes place in is one of the more memorable

Audition was probably one of the scariest films I've ever seen. That scene at the end, with the needles. Get shivers every time I think about it.

to make a remake, it takes great responsibility. the original looks like they talk a lot and battles are quite quick (of course it's a trailer, so I can't judge it at all) but the remake looks like they concentrated on the fight scenes and on the explosions. But still, looks awesome!

I didn't liked Audition at all, it tried too hard to be gross, Ichi the killer was entertaining.
